VILLA IL MONASTERO - BARBERINO TAVARNELLE
7 Bedrooms
Location and Surrounding Area
Immersed in the tranquil Tuscan countryside, this charming estate is ideally located to explore Tuscany’s cultural highlights and spectacular natural wonders. Villa Il Monastero is situated in the heart of Chianti, halfway between Florence and Siena, along the course of the Pesa River—a small tributary of the Arno worth exploring on foot. Surrounded by a lush garden, the property comprises three distinct buildings: the main house and two annexes.
The vineyards in this picturesque region of Tuscany produce the grapes used in the renowned Chianti and Chianti Classico red wines. The Chianti region is a landscape dotted with historic olive groves, honey-colored stone farmhouses, dense forests, charming Romanesque churches, Renaissance villas, and imposing stone castles built by Florentine and Sienese warlords during the Middle Ages. The northern area of Chianti, which falls within the province of Florence, is a popular day trip from the city.
The villa is just a stone’s throw from Greve in Chianti, a gastronomic paradise near Panzano. The town’s butchers are famed for their beef, wild boar, cured pork, and more. Surrounded by Chianti vineyards, Greve hosts the region’s most famous grape harvest festival, the Expo del Chianti Classico, held over a long weekend in September with guided outdoor tastings, live music, and other events. This is classic Chianti country, just as you’ve seen in pictures and Renaissance paintings.
The villa is also a few kilometers from Panzano, which overlooks the Conca d’Oro, a “Golden Bowl” of sunbaked, south-facing Sangiovese vines that produce some of the region’s most sought-after red wines. Panzano is home to Chianti’s most famous butcher, Dario Cecchini. You can also enjoy Dario’s meat at his trio of restaurants: Dario DOC for informal lunches at communal tables, Solociccia for hearty meat dishes, and Officina Della Bistecca for the very hungry carnivore.
In just thirty-five minutes by car, you can reach the walled town of San Gimignano, one of Italy’s best-preserved medieval villages. As you crest the nearby hills, the fourteen towers of the town rise like a medieval Manhattan. Despite its popularity, the town maintains a palpable sense of history and an enchanting rural setting. The historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and strolling through its streets will make you feel as though you have stepped back in time.
Villa Il Monastero is 37 km from Florence Amerigo Vespucci International Airport, 87 km from Pisa Galileo Galilei International Airport and 288 km from Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. Tavarnelle Val di Pesa is 7 km from the villa, Barberino Val D’Elsa is 9 km, Greve in Chianti is 14 km, Panzano in Chianti is 15 km, San Casciano in Val di Pesa is 15 km, Castellina in Chianti is 18 km, San Gimignano is 29 km, Florence is 35 km, Siena is 47 km, Volterra is 51 km, Vitignano is 55 km, and Pisa is 122 km.

Main Villa (4 Double Bedrooms):
The entrance lounge, dining room, and kitchen on the first and main floors serve as the living areas of the house, offering a refreshing escape from the sun during hot August afternoons. Sink into one of the comfy armchairs or sofas in the lounge area and put your feet up after a long walk around Florence. When it’s time to rustle up some dinner, you’ll find everything you need in the fully-equipped kitchen on the same floor. The main floor also features a convenient laundry room and a guest bathroom.
On the second floor of the main villa, you’ll discover a bright living room where the central beam takes centre stage, along with a roaring fireplace that adds an extra special touch to the atmosphere. The villa exudes historic charm with a distinctive style evocative of traditional Tuscany, while modern touches are carefully added throughout the home to create the perfect balance. The main villa can accommodate eight guests in four double bedrooms, each complete with an en-suite bathroom, spread across three floors.
Cipressi:
Exuding a sophisticated design with elegant hues of green, the Cipressi master bedroom is a serene retreat located on the second floor, offering captivating views of the garden’s majestic cypress trees. This spacious double room features a luxurious en-suite bathroom, complete with a travertine shower and a freestanding tub, inviting you to indulge in ultimate relaxation.
Il Susino:
Located on the second floor, this elegant 40-square-meter double bedroom is adorned with delicate pastel tones in shades of pink, inspired by the plum tree that the room overlooks. The room offers a tranquil atmosphere and features a spacious en-suite bathroom with a luxurious glass-enclosed shower stall, perfect for unwinding in comfort.
La Camera Antica:
In this 40-square-meter double bedroom located on the first and main floor, the choice of “raw” parquet flooring, crafted from selected bicentennial wooden planks, imparts undeniable elegance. This is further enhanced by a magnificent crystal chandelier that centrally illuminates the en-suite bathroom, which is complete with a glass-enclosed shower stall and features gold accents and travertine fixtures as the focal points.
Le Macine:
Located on the ground floor, this 40-square-meter double bedroom has been transformed from what was once the villa's stable, as evidenced by the preserved mangers intentionally left intact. This suite offers a direct view of the garden, a covered terrace, and a small outdoor seating area. It features an en-suite bathroom with a glass-enclosed shower stall. The suite is adjacent to the "Macine" room, where the carefully preserved millstones can be admired.
Dépendance #1 (1 Double Bedroom + 1 Twin Room) – Il Rosmarino:
Il Rosmarino, located on the left side of the villa’s façade, just a few meters from the main house, is a 60-square-meter dépendance that can accommodate four guests in two bedrooms spread across two levels: a double bedroom on the lower level and a twin room on the mezzanine level. The lower level also features a bathroom with a shower. Please note that this dépendance is more suitable for a family with two children, as the twin room is on the mezzanine level and there is only one shared bathroom.
Dépendance #2 (1 Double Bedroom) – Il Leccio:
Situated opposite the main house and converted from an ancient sawmill, this charming 60-square-meter dépendance offers stunning views of the park through its inviting paved patio.
