Nestled into those magical hillsides of Chianti between Florence and Siena, an area that arguably produces the world's finest wines, Villa Certaldo is ideally located to explore the region’s cultural highlights and most spectacular natural wonders. This fabled area of Tuscany offers rolling hills complete with vineyards, olive groves and picturesque fields full of poppies and sunflowers. The property is just a stone’s throw from Certaldo, a little town famous for being the birthplace of the Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio. Today, it is distinguished for its beauty, culture, food and wine and you will find everything you might need in the way of shops and services during your stay. If you manage to time your visit for Mercantia Festival in July, you are in for a real treat! Street theatre groups, artists and musicians from all over the world create a world of evening fun and entertainment suitable for all ages.

The villa is just a few kilometers from San Gimignano, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Italy. From afar, San Gimignano looks like a town from a Renaissance painting: a circle of 13th-century walls enclosing tall, teetering stone towers. Its towers make it instantly recognizable, but the art treasures held within its walls are just as remarkable. Although the town is small, there is enough art, architecture and fine food to keep you busy for more than one day.

In less than one hour by car, you can reach Volterra, one of Tuscany’s most dramatic hilltop towns. Despite its many attractions, Volterra sees fewer tourists than other Tuscan towns, so you can expect to share its winding stone streets with locals and explore its ancient sites without crowds. Founded by the Etruscans and surrounded by medieval walls, Volterra has a notable historic center filled with fascinating Roman ruins, medieval buildings and alabaster workshops.

The property is one hour by car from Florence, a treasure trove of art with an astonishing contemporary vibe. Beyond the extraordinary artistic heritage, a testimony to its centuries of civilization, the best way to enjoy Florence is to stroll along the riverside avenues at sunset, or to get lost among the city’s myriad alleyways of the bohemian Oltrarno or the narrow little streets of San Niccolò, where it feels like you have ended up in another time along its centuries-old walls.

The Property

Located in the heart of Tuscany, Villa Certaldo represents an oasis of tranquility just a stone’s throw from Florence. With charming views over the Tuscan hills, the property is the ideal place to enjoy a holiday in the company of family and friends. Dating back to the 18th century, this exclusive villa has been masterfully renovated and, after extensive renovations, the interior and exterior of the property have been brought back to their former glory. Villa Certaldo can accommodate 18 guests in nine double bedrooms with en-suite bathroom.

Surrounded by a generous garden, the property boasts an exclusive swimming pool (that can be heated on request at an extra cost) and a spacious poolside area furnished with comfortable sun loungers inviting guests to sit back and unwind. Much of your time here will probably be spent in the immaculate grounds, sunbathing around the pool or rustling up Tuscan steaks on the barbecue to be eaten al fresco as the locals do. You will also find plenty of space on the terrace for elegant, evening cocktails with fine views.

The ground floor opens onto a spacious hallway area and offers two gorgeous sitting rooms and two dining rooms, one of which has enormous glass windows to allow all of the outside light, panorama and space into the room while you dine. There is plenty of seating for everyone to eat together as you gaze out over the evening lights in the distance. There is also a cozy TV room and a beautiful, Tuscan-style kitchen with central island. A useful laundry room and a handy downstairs bathroom complete the ground floor.

Today, the property includes all of those modern luxuries that one expects from a villa of this high standard. Offering 600 square meters of accommodation over three floors, the villa can accommodate up to 18 guests in nine double bedrooms. All bedrooms feature their own en-suite bathroom, terracotta floors and superb antique furniture in keeping with the aristocratic style of the building plus the added comfort of orthopedic mattresses and high-quality cotton sheets.

On the ground floor you will find one double bedroom with en-suite bathroom. On the first floor you will find seven bedrooms (five double bedrooms and two double/twin rooms) with en-suite bathrooms, one of which has a Jacuzzi tub. In the attic, on the second floor, you will find one double/twin room with en-suite bathroom, which can be reached from a spiral staircase and boasts two charming terraces with far-reaching views across the countryside.
