Famous for its whitewashed towns, excellent food, dramatic coastal cliffs and beautiful beaches, this area of Southern Apulia features all the ingredients for the perfect vacation.

The villa is also a few kilometers from Otranto, a natural bridge between the Mediterranean and the East, and a charming land where the ancient atmosphere of the historic center goes hand in hand with a lively nightlife. Lying deep in Italy’s stiletto, Otranto has back-heeled quite a few invaders over the centuries and been brutally kicked by others. Sleuth around its compact old quarter and you can peel the past off in layers: Greek, Roman, Turkish and Napoleonic.

Bequeathed with baroque buildings by 17th-century architects, Lecce has a completeness and homogeneity that other southern Italian metropolises lack. Indeed, so distinctive is Lecce’s architecture that it has acquired its own moniker, Lecce baroque, an expressive and decorative incarnation of the genre replete with gargoyles, asparagus columns and cavorting gremlins. Swooning 18th-century traveler Thomas Ashe thought it as the most beautiful city in Italy.

Porto Cesareo sits on a prestigious part of the Ionian coast, enjoying a long stretch of beach and sparkling clean seas. The popular seaside resort has an amazing 17 km of golden beach facing an archipelago of low-lying islands that form a protected bay. The water is calm and clear. Porto Cesareo is also the home of a nature preserve that is a marine protected area rich in flora and fauna with very rare species. Underwater excursions allow for viewing of the unique coral formations, turtles, sea horses, and other marine life.

Santa Maria di Leuca boasts one of the biggest and most fascinating tourist ports in Salento, with 760 mooring places that can accommodate boats up to 40 meters long. The coast, surrounded by Punta Ristola and Punta Meliso, alternates cliffs and beaches, with the characteristic “bagnarole” made of stone. In Leuca, you will also find the fascinating marine caves that can be visited via boats: the marine life and crystal-clear water underneath the caves make them a perfect hotspot for snorkeling and scuba diving.

The city of Gallipoli, Greek for Beautiful City, is a pearl in the blue waters of the Ionian Sea. The port has established it as a maritime town for centuries and it still has an active fishing trade. It was a trade port with ties to Orient, as seen in some of the decorations and touches around town. The elegant old center hints at its once important past. The beaches are known throughout Italy as some of the cleanest around, with colorful rows of umbrellas and bright seafront bars and restaurants decorating them in the summer.

The Property

Surrounded by secular olive trees, Masseria Salentina is a charming 300-square meter villa located in one of the most evocative corners in Southern Italy. Offering rustic yet chic interiors, the villa was constructed in the late 19th century as a country residence for a local aristocratic family. Today, this exceptional property can accommodate sixteen plus three guests featuring eight double bedrooms and three sofa beds spread over six main areas and two floors.

Surrounded by a lush garden, the villa boasts an exceptional infinity pool and a generous and furnished poolside area designed to catch the sun all day. Offering a tranquil atmosphere, the gorgeous gardens and surrounding parkland cover ten hectares and boast sweetly-scented Mediterranean vegetation, holm oaks and pine trees. The large pool has easy access with steps, and the area beside the pool is ideal for poolside cocktails in the evening.

The pool area is safely fenced off so smaller children can play in the gardens without worrying parents. The favorable sun exposure allows guests to enjoy the sunlight until sunset, appreciating the surprising and colorful colors of the sky. Offering a serene atmosphere, the villa also boasts an exclusive al fresco dining area under the shade of a covered veranda. There is also a barbecue area and wood-fired pizza oven if you fancy trying your hand at making pizza for the whole family.

Rosemary Suite: Located on the ground floor, in the central part of the villa, this suite opens out onto the gardens and has two entrances. This bright suite features two double bedrooms with bathroom with shower, two fireplaces, a generous dining area with well-equipped kitchen and two comfortable sofa beds. This bright suite can sleep up to four guests plus two extra guests in the sofa beds.

Laurel Suite: The Laurel Suite is located on the ground floor and overlooks the gardens and the pool. This bright suite can sleep up to three guests with a double bedroom, walk-in wardrobe, bathroom with shower and living area with well-equipped kitchen, small dining table and a comfortable sofa bed. There are two doorways out onto the gardens. This suite can sleep up to two guests plus one extra guest in the sofa bed.

Strawberry Tree Suite: Located on the first floor of the villa, this rustic yet elegant suite offers two double bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and a spacious sitting room with open fireplace. There is a large well-equipped kitchen and a panoramic and generous terrace with sweeping views over the olive trees for sipping your morning coffee. Flooded with light, this suite can accommodate up to four guests.

Mastic Tree Suite: Located on the first floor, this bright suite offers a double bedroom and a bathroom with romantic bathtub. This suite also features a well-equipped kitchen with electric oven and a spacious dining room with direct access out onto the generous terrace, which represents a perfect sunbathing spot. This suite can accommodate up to two guests.

Myrtle Room: Located on the ground floor and accessed from the garden, this charming double bedroom offer its guests the chance to wake up and gaze out over the gardens from the comfort of their bed. This double bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with shower and an outdoor kitchen area with a fridge. Flooded with natural light, this room sleeps up to two guests.

Lavender Room: Located on the ground floor, this lovely room overlooks the orchard and sleeps two guests in a double bedroom with its own en-suite bathroom with shower. Here you will also find a kitchenette area with fridge and a private patio area offering a calm atmosphere, perfect for afternoon aperitifs. This sleeps up to two guests.
