Villa Il Gelso is just steps from the sea in one of the most scenic parts of the mythical Salento in Apulia. The nearby Roman harbour and fishing village of Castro features a historic centre on the hill and a lively marina below. There are plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance of the villa. The nearby coastline is dotted with charming caves, with the spectacular Grotta Zinzulusa limestone caves being the most famous.

The villa is also a few kilometres from Otranto, a natural bridge between the Mediterranean and the East, known for its ancient atmosphere and vibrant nightlife. In less than an hour by car, you can easily reach Gallipoli, meaning “beautiful city”: explore the narrow, paved streets of the historic centre and visit the fish market before mingling with the crowds.

Santa Maria di Leuca boasts one of the largest and most fascinating tourist ports in Salento, with 760 mooring places accommodating boats up to 40 metres long. The coast, bordered by Punta Ristola and Punta Meliso, alternates between cliffs and beaches, with characteristic stone “bagnarole” structures. In Leuca, you can also visit the captivating marine caves by boat: the marine life and crystal-clear waters make them perfect for snorkelling and scuba diving.

Guests will find it hard to tear themselves away from the pool with its stunning sea views. Villa Il Gelso accommodates up to ten guests in five bedrooms (two double bedrooms and three twin rooms), each with an en-suite bathroom featuring a shower.

Surrounded by an exquisitely maintained garden, the villa boasts an exceptional swimming pool and a generous paved poolside area equipped with comfortable sun loungers, inviting guests to sit back and unwind. The outdoor space also includes a spacious al fresco lounge area and a dining area shaded by a pergola, where guests can enjoy traditional Italian meals in an intimate setting. There is direct access to the dramatic rocky coastline of the Adriatic Sea, and a short path leads down to the water.

The five bedrooms (two double bedrooms and three twin rooms), all with en-suite bathrooms featuring showers, are air-conditioned, as are all rooms in the villa, reflecting the natural colours of the local land and seascapes. Flooded with natural light, the villa boasts a gorgeous, well-equipped kitchen that invites guests to prepare delicious meals to be enjoyed al fresco under the stars on the panoramic terrace.
