Magnificent, 18th century, aristocratic home with private pool.
Location and Surrounding Area. This magnificent estate dates back to the 18th century and the stately home is located in three hectares of immaculate gardens and parkland in a panoramic position on the fabled Tuscan rolling hills. Cypress trees line the sun-dappled lanes and the property is within easy reach of the wine-producing Chianti hillsides, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Siena, the medieval hilltop towns of Montalcino, Montepulciano and the more famous Florence and San Gimignano.
Siena is medieval gem, famous for its architecture, the Campo central piazza and the Palio horse race, which is held twice every summer. The Palio and the Campo piazza both featured in the James Bond Quantum of Solace film and as you sip a cappuccino in the piazza, it's hard not to slip into film-star mode as you watch the world go by.
The whole area is steeped in history with unchanged, medieval towns perched on hillsides, the unforgettable San Gimignano with its high medieval towers and Suvereto, arguably one of Italy's most beautiful villages. Montepulciano is another such stunning hilltop Renaissance town, famed not only for its beauty and car-free centre but also for the quality of its fine wines. The Cantucci family, for example, has been creating fine wines since the 1700s and is considered one of the founding fathers of the exceptional red wine, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Another sought-after red wine, the Brunello di Montalcino, has been produced in the hills around Montalcino since the early 14th century, partly due to the fact that Montalcino has the warmest and driest climate in Tuscany.
For gold aficionados, the international Royal Golf La Bagnaia features an 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., which harmoniously blends with the local landscape. You can even gaze out over Siena as you ponder your next stroke.
Villa La Statua is 80 km from Florence international airport, 9 km from Siena and 80 km from Florence. Montalcino is 47 km away, the Royal Golf La Bagnaia 27 km, San Gimignano 40 km and Montepulciano 47 km away.
The Property. The layout of the original, 18th century property was altered in the late 1800s by a Sienese aristocrat who happened to be living in Florence, hence the Florentine style of the renovations. The immaculate grounds are walled and feature flower gardens, woodland areas with romantic paths, water fountains, the Nymphaeum, an aviary and even a citrus orchard. The large swimming pool has shelving steps for easy access, enjoys breathtaking countryside views and has its own bathrooms and changing areas.
Villa La Statua offers 1500 m2 of superb accommodation over three floors with a connecting lift and sleeps up to 25 guests in 14 bedrooms, each with a private or en suite bathroom. A stylish marble staircase leads you up from the entrance hall to an upstairs living room and the suites and bedrooms on the first and second floors.
Ground Floor. This amazing ground floor with authentic period furniture houses various impressive living, dining and recreation areas. The largest living room is located just after the portrait gallery and features a fireplace and beautiful, full-length windows overlooking the lawns. If you're dining inside, you can choose between eating in the breakfast room or the more formal dining room. The kitchen is enormous and fully-equipped with professional accessories yet manages to retain its old world charm and remain a focal living space in the home. For after-dinner entertainment, take yourself off for a relaxing game of snooker or a game of cards in the exquisite snooker room. There is also a handy, extra bathroom on the ground floor.
