6 Bedrooms (4 double, 2 suites) – Pool
Luxury villa with private swimming pool situated in the vicinity of Syracuse, one of the most attractive, ancient Greek cities of the Mediterranean. Blending harmoniously with its natural surroundings, Villa Floriana is a contemporary dwelling designed to respect the environment. The use of eco-friendly building and technology solutions - such as the photovoltaic, solar thermal, radiant heating and cooling systems - have improved the energy efficiency performance of the villa, which has received a class A rating. Extending over two floors, it comprises three interlocking volumes: the central block - the volume tower made of reinforced concrete - is the entrance, the side blocks house the living area on one side and the sleeping area on the other side. These volumes embrace the swimming pool and its solarium that offer beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Tastefully furnished with contemporary pieces, Villa Floriana with its six cosy bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, cinema room with projector, kitchen, living and dining room is perfect for a large family or a group of friends. It is also an excellent base for exploring the south east of Sicily, from the baroque towns and UNESCO world heritage sites of the Val di Noto to the Nature Reserves of Cavagrande and Vendicari. Only a short drive away from the villa is the wonderful sandy beach of Fontane Bianche.
Description of the locality. Syracuse - one among the most beautiful cities of the Mediterranean Sea - is situated right on the coast facing the sea, it is rich in history and monuments and expresses the whole range and cultural complexity of Sicily from prehistory up to present days. The ancient small town of Greek origin was founded by the Corinthians in 734 B.C. and in the course of the years underwent several rules: Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans. The town was razed to the ground by the tragic earthquake of 1693, soon afterwards was rebuilt according to a prevalently baroque style and still nowadays its historical downtown pervades with a pretty fascinating eighteenth century atmosphere. Numerous are its monuments worth visiting: the Duomo (Cathedral), the Fonte Aretusa (Fount of Aretusa), the Castello Maniace (Castle of the Maniace family), the Teatro Greco (Greek Theatre), the Orecchio di Dioniso (Ear of Dionysus' cave), the Castello Eurialo (Castle of Eurialo). To those ones who are fond of nature and trekking we recommend, besides the renowned bathing localities, the Riserva Naturale di Cavagrande del Cassibile (Natural Reserve) crossed by a short river which in its course creates some natural small lakes where one gets the chance to take a bath surrounded by an oasis of sheer Mediterranean vegetation. At late evening it is really nice taking a walk along the sea-front promenade of Ortigia Island where one may taste the sesame flavoured "torrone" (kind of nougat) or drink a glass of "Rosso di Pachino" (red wine). Cultural events take place all the year long but the classical plays of the Greek tragedies - staged in the ancient theatre of Syracuse during the months of May and June - have international fame.
Distances: Noto is 32 Km away; Pachino is 50 Km away; Portopalo di Capo Passero is 57 Km away; Modica is 60 Km away; Catania is 70 Km away; Ragusa is 75 Km away; the Aetna is 80 Km away; Piazza Armerina is 140 Km away; Agrigento is 210 Km away; Palermo is 260 Km away.
